Alfredo. Do you know what is better than alfredo? Alfredo made from scratch in under 20 minutes..with only 5 (okay, 7 if you count salt & pepper) ingredients? Yeah, I went there.
We eat this for dinner probably once a week because it is seriously SO delicious! I try to save it for a day of the week where I know I will be short on time, but let’s be honest, it’s so good that I will make it even when I’ve got all the time in the world.
This is a fool-proof recipe- great for newbies, seasoned Instant Potters, and totally kid approved!
Okay, let’s do this thang.
Chicken broth, heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper & noodles broken in half go into the pot. Make sure that all of the noodles are covered in liquid.
Manual high pressure for 6 minutes. (I like my noodles with a little bite to them, if you like yours softer I’d recommend cooking for a minute or two longer.) Let it naturally release the pressure for 6 minutes. The display will read L0:06 and then you can quick release.
It will be very liquidy when you take the lid off. That is a-okay and totally normal. Let it sit and cool for about a minute or so (very important!!) and then add in some parmesan cheese. You’ll want the real thing. None of that powdered stuff.
Gradually stir in the cheese. The cheese will melt into the sauce and thicken it.

Aaaand then, serve it up and say Bon Appetit! Serve alongside some Oven Roasted Broccoli!

Recipe Notes
This recipe can easily be doubled!
Leftovers are best when you add a splash of milk in after it is reheated.

Has anyone tried this with vegetable broth? I’m not a fan of chicken broth.
That will work fine. 🙂
Thank you!
I have a vegetarian so what can I use in place of the chicken broth?
Hi Pattie- veritable broth is a great substitute!
This is a great way to use up the end of a heavy cream container. I used as much cream as I had and then finished up the measurement with half and half. Really tasty! I added in left over broccoli after cooking and it made for a lovely lunch. Thanks so much!
So glad you loved it, Christina! Thanks for taking the time to comment! Means the world to me! ❤️
I just found this recipe 2 weeks ago and we’ve already made it twice. It’s delicious and tastes so much more authentic than the jarred sauce I’ve been using for years. My very picked 10 year old even loves it and now requests “Mom’s chicken alfredo” for every meal. I’m doubling the batch and making it for a large family dinner tomorrow and I can’t wait to hear what everyone says about it!
For those who want to add chicken – I started with cooking the chicken using the sauté function, until it’s just about done. Then I take the chicken out, rinse out the insert and layer the sauce and noodles as instructed. Then I top with chicken and cook. It’s turned out great both times!
Yay! Hope everyone loves it! 🙂 Thanks for the stars and comment, Krisha! ❤️
I have tried many Instant Pot homemade alfredo recipes in the past that were either so-so to down right horrible. This is soooooo delicious! My only problem is that it didn’t make enough. It was so good that everyone wanted seconds! Thank you for sharing.
Happy to hear you loved it! ❤️ thanks for the comment. ?
How would I cut this recipe in half? I’m completely new to instant pot cooking. Thanks
Hi Crystal! If you’d like to cut the recipe in half, just follow the recipe instructions exactly, but use half the ingredients. The cook time will stay the same. ?
Hi Karli. This sounds wonderful. I just got my a 3 quart Instant Pot. (Which I haven’t tried yet. Do I need to cut the recipe in half or will it fit? Thanks.
You should be fine, Judith! Just watch it as it releases the pressure. Since you are using a smaller pot you will have a bigger chance of liquid coming out of the vent. If that does start to happen, just seal it back up and wait another minute for things to settle down before trying again.
YES! Awesome easy recipe. It’s a do again for us!
Best news ever, Ruth! Thanks for commenting. Means the world. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!
Cut the recipe in half – perfect for two people with a 3rd serving for leftovers. A very easy and delicious recipe. Thank you for sharing!
Happy to hear this, Glinda! ❤️ So glad you liked it!
Followed it exactly, but added 2 minutes for softer noodles. The flavor was fantastic, but noodles were stuck together and still crunchy. 🙁 Any suggestions?!
Hi Tiffany- it sounds like either your Pot didn’t come to pressure correctly or your Pot was set to low pressure instead of high pressure. Give it another go, you are the first to report having undercooked noodles, some people actually cook for less time because they prefer them more al dente. Give it another shot, make sure the pot is set to high pressure & that the pin pops up indicating that the pot has come to pressure and you should be golden. ?
Has anyone tried tripling this recipe? Just wondering if it’ll be okay to triple.
Hi Janice! If you have an 8 qt, you should be able to triple with out any issues. I would just keep an eye on the pot while releasing the pressure, with the extra pasta in there (which means more start he than normal) it may bubble up and start coming out of the vent. If that begins to happen, quickly close the vent with the back of a spoon and let it sit for an additional minute or so before trying again. ?
