What is Sonic Ocean Water?

I don’t know about you, but fun beverages like Sonic Ocean Water makes me want to scream “Happy Summer” at the top of my lungs. So, HAPPY SUMMER, you need to try this ocean water drink!

Okay, I’m getting a little bit ahead of myself – you’re probably wondering “Karli, what is ocean water at Sonic.” Well, I’m delighted to be the one to tell you. ‘Ocean water’ is a mixture of blue coconutty deliciousness combined with our old favorite, sprite. And let me tell you – it’s a must for your pool-side Stanley this season. But only if you’re adding in some iconic pebble ice, too.

What is Ocean Water made of?

  • Sprite or 7UP, chilled  – Any lemon/lime soda will do here.
  • Torani coconut syrup – If you don’t have Torani syrup, you can use coconut extract (1 tbsp) and a simple syrup (1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup granulated sugar, microwaved until the sugar has dissolved and then cooled) in its place. However, Torani syrup is so much easier and it’s delish! I love that they have a sugar free option, too.
  • Blue food coloring  – This obviously doesn’t impact flavor, but it does impact the fun! Feel free to leave the food coloring out if you’d like.
  • Maraschino cherries  – These are also optional, but again, fun.
  • Sonic pebble ice  – A must, in my opinion – this is the pellet ice maker that I have and love!

Can I make a sugar-free version of Ocean Water?

You sure can! Just make sure to choose a sugar-free soda option and use the sugar-free Torani syrup! Voila, a sugar-free delight in your cup!

Fun ways to serve this Sonic Ocean Water Recipe

Obviously maraschino cherries are a great way to enhance the presentation of this drink. But – hear me out – what about giant swedish fish? They would make the Ocean Water SO fun!

Ocean Water Sonic Recipe storage

Because this beverage uses carbonated soda, it will become flat if stored for a long time!

Ocean Water from Sonic FAQs

What does Sonic’s ocean water slush taste like?

Sonic’s ocean water slush is sweet with a strong coconut flavor profile.

Is ocean water the same as blue coconut?

In some cases, yes, but not all the time. Blue coconut sometimes can mean a combination of blue raspberry and coconut while ocean water does not contain any blue raspberry flavor.
