P.F. Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps- Easy, Healthy and Delicious!
Would you believe me if I told you that I went to P.F. Chang’s for the very first time less than one month ago?? Well, its the whole truth!!
I attended the Tastemaker’s Conference (a conference for all of us Food Bloggers) in the middle of September. A handful of us got together for dinner the night before the conference, P.F. Chang’s was the place!
I ordered some Crispy Honey Chicken, but a cute gal ordered some Chicken Lettuce Wraps for the table as an appetizer. Let’s just say, I wish I could have eaten 5 orders of those lettuce wraps! I was seriously blown away!
The simplicity of the lettuce wrap down to the punch of the flavor hit all of the right notes. You guys know, I am not one that likes spending money. Even on super delicious, amazing food.
This dinner at P.F. Chang’s goes down as the most expensive meal I have ever bought myself. Might have had a slight panic attack while paying the bill. ?
This homemade version is easy on the wallet and just as mouthwateringly delicious!
How to make Chicken Lettuce Wraps in the Instant Pot
To make the chicken filling for the lettuce wraps in the Instant Pot you can do it one of two ways. First, use the saute function for the entire process. If you wish to do that, follow the stovetop directions below.
Here, I will explain how to pressure cook the ground chicken first, before crumbling and adding in the flavoring.
I prefer to pressure cook the ground chicken for a couple of reasons. The main reason being that I don’t have to babysit a hot pan, crumbling and cooking the meat. I have little kids, laundry, messes and giggles that need my attention way more than a hot pan does.
Secondly, It is really easy to drain out any grease because the chicken is cooked on the trivet. Simply pull the trivet out and then discard the liquid and grease.
To pressure cook the ground chicken, place one cup of water into the Instant Pot’s liner and place the ground chicken onto the trivet. Lower the trivet into the Instant Pot. Season with salt and pepper.
Cook on manual HIGH for 5 minutes, QR the pressure.
Using hot pads, lift the trivet out of the Instant Pot and discard the liquid. Return the ground chicken to the Instant Pot and break apart.
Turn the Instant Pot onto Saute and add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, diced onion, ground ginger, sesame oil, sliced water chestnuts, and sliced green onions to the Instant Pot.
Let the content of the Instant Pot simmer until the sauce is reduced and slightly thicker.
Serve nestled inside of some lettuce! Sprinkle with extra green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

This may be a silly question, but I just have the trivet that came with my instant pot, can I use that one? Do I just but the raw ground chicken on the trivet? I’m having a hard time picturing how it works. Thanks!
karlibitner says
That is exactly right!
Fiona says
Do you drain the water chestnuts? Thanks!
Karli Bitner says
Yes, I do! 🙂

My chicken wasn’t fully cooked after instapot so I transferred to pan and cooked on my stovetop. Could have made the whole recipe on stovetop– but it’s very tasty!
Karli Bitner says
Hi Kathleen- The purpose of pressure cooking it is so that it mostly cooks without you having to stand over the stovetop. Everything is sautéed in the Instant Pot after the pressure cooking to add the other ingredients so everything will be fully cooked. I hope that makes sense! I am glad that you enjoyed it still. It is one of my favorites!

This recipe was delicious with ground pork. My grocery store had no ground chicken available. Thanks for the Instant pot tip for cooking the ground meat. It was so much easier than standing there stirring and sweating over a hot pan. Next time, I will add an extra minute to the pressure cook because the pork was a little pink in places, but finished cooking quickly on sauté before adding the rest of the ingredients. Thanks for the recipe.

I am glad you enjoyed the recipe, Jane! I am happy to hear it tastes well with ground pork, also. 🙂 Thanks for the comment!!

I made this last night with ground turkey (store was out of ground chicken) and it was delicious and super easy. I loved the simplicity of browning the meat in the Instant Pot while I chopped the onions and rounded up the other ingredients. Am I correct that I could brown other ground meat this same way? That may be a game changer!
Sara says
Recipe is so yummy and so easy! Added rice mixed with some soy sauce to make the meat go farther and it was delicious! Definitely making this again!

Yes Judy, that should work. Thanks, I’m glad you liked it.
