Creamy Cheesy Broccoli Casserole

If you can’t tell based on how many different broccoli recipes I already have on this site, it’s a favorite vegetable of mine. It’s so flavorful, healthy, and versatile. It holds up great to roasting, casseroles, soups, and more. This creamy, cheesy broccoli casserole is just another recipe that proves how amazing of a vegetable it really is. 

When you think of side dishes, you often get a wide variety ranging from bread stuffing to mashed potatoes. In some places, you may even find that a good broccoli salad recipe can be a huge hit. This creamy, cheesy broccoli casserole is a warm and delicious broccoli side dish that can be just as successful at your next potluck or family gathering.

This side dish is practically effortless to make! Thanks to the Instant Pot, it can be even easier!  That being said, if you don’t own an Instant Pot yet, you can steam broccoli on the stove and still follow along with this cheesy recipe below.

How to Steam Broccoli

Steaming broccoli is super easy to do. If you have an Instant Pot, be sure to follow my post and tips on how to perfectly steam broccoli in your Instant Pot in no time! 

If you don’t have an Instant Pot, you can easily steam your broccoli in the microwave. In a microwave safe bowl, add your broccoli florets, 2-3 tbsp of water and then cover the bowl with a microwave safe plate. Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes. Be careful taking the bowl out of the microwave, it will be hot! Drain the water off of the broccoli. You now have steamed broccoli!

What Are the Ingredients in This Broccoli Casserole?

Here’s a look at the ingredients you’re going to want to have on hand to make this cheesy and creamy warm side dish!

  • Steamed Broccoli (using this recipe or your own)
  • Butter
  • Minced Garlic
  • Heavy Cream
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Salt
  • Pepper

How to Make This Instant Pot Broccoli Casserole

In a saucepan, melt your butter. Then add in the garlic and saute for about 1 minute. Add in the heavy cream and bring it to a boil, continue stirring. Slowly add in the shredded parmesan cheese by whisking until completely melted. Add salt and pepper to taste and pour over the steamed broccoli.

What Goes Well With Cheesy Broccoli?

Cheesy broccoli casserole like this one would pair well with just about any dish.  Parmesan breaded chicken breast or pork chop, a simple side salad and some garlic roasted red potatoes could give you a nice full plate that helps to make all of the flavors shine through.

Broccoli Cheese Casserole

Broccoli Cheese Casserole is a creamy comfort side dish perfectly paired with any meal! The homemade Garlic Parmesan Cheese Sauce is made within minutes making this a speedy side dish!
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 5 servings

Ingredients 

  • 5 cups broccoli, steamed
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp minced garlic, dried, (can substitute 4 fresh cloves, if desired)
  • 1 1/2 cup heavy cream, (can substitute evaporated milk, if desired)
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions 

  • Steam broccoli. While broccoli is steaming, make the sauce.
  • Melt the butter in a sauce pan. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute
  • Add the heavy cream. Bring to a boil.
  • SLOWLY add in the parmesan cheese, whisking until completely melted. 
  • Salt and pepper to taste. The sauce will thicken as it cools.
  • Pour over the steamed broccoli and serve.

Notes

If you are using your Instant Pot- you can steam the broccoli in the Instant Pot, drain the water and then make the sauce right in the liner! Only one dish to clean. 🙂
