Easy-to-prepare Crepes; Beginner Friendly!

Is it just me, or do crepes seem super fancy? Fancy food is usually associated with hard, tedious, and time consuming.

Well fancy food just got a whole new definition. These crepes, honestly, couldn’t be easier! Kid’s love them, too!

The crepes work well with both sweet and savory fillings. Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, powdered sugar.. you bet!! On the flip side eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes, country gravy are all to die for too!

I really don’t know which I would choose, savory or sweet. I usually have a couple savory ones and then a sweet crepe for dessert.

How To Make Pancake Mix Crepes

Crepes are made from an extremely thin batter. The batter consists of pancake mix (I used Krusteaz), milk, an egg, and vanilla. Whisk until there are no lumps left.

pancake mix, milk, egg and vanilla mixed together into a batter

Heat a small non-stick frying pan over medium high heat until hot. The size of your pan will be the size of your finished crepes, so keep that in mind!

Once the frying pan is HOT spray with non stick cooking spray. The next two steps need to be done as fast as possible.

Pour a small amount of batter (I used 1/8 of a cup of batter for my small frying pan) in the middle of the hot pan. Then pick up the pan and tip and twirl it until the entire bottom is coated.

Set back onto the stove top and let it cook until the edges start to peel away from pan. At that point, carefully transfer the crepe to a plate and then repeat!!

Tips for the Perfect Crepes

The first crepe is always a dud. I don’t know why, but the first one never comes out quite right. Don’t give up!

Make sure to spray the pan with non-stick spray in between each and every crepe!

Keep the crepes warm in the oven until ready to serve.

Very good. First 2 didn’t look too good but 3rd one looked like it was from a restaurant.

I’ve made these a couple times. Thank you for the great easy recipe. I never have baking supplies but I always have pancake mix. I do make the mix the night before and put it in a Ziploc bag and keep it in the fridge. They get so much lighter and airier.

Made for the first time ever and they turned out great!! I used millers pancake mix, used equal amounts water and milk to make up the liquid volume, and butter instead of non-stick spray. I filled the crepe with whipped cream and strawberries, the kids devoured it 🙂

Brought me back to when I was a young girl growing up and I’d stay with my uncle (recently deceased within the last couple years). He’d always wake up and get a good hearty breakfast going. I can’t wait to try this recipe out for my boys and hopefully hold up to my uncle’s greatness and love for cooking just so he could see the joy in those he cooked for by tasting the flavorful food he prepared.

Easy, accessible and so simple, that someone who’s never eaten a crepe in her life can make ’em. I made these this morning for my mother and I and my mom who’s had crepes at a restaurant in Chicago, said my crepes turned out better than those. All I did was serve them with a touch of butter. I followed your advice to a T, didn’t panic when the first crepe turned out “crepe-y” (sorry, had to pun) and just kept going and before I knew it, I was eating the most delicious breakfast… enough, I’m making them again for dinner.
