I am a sucker for sweet and tangy orange chicken! And this homemade version is quicker and yummier than the fried take out version.

Ingredients in this Easy Orange Chicken Recipe
- Soy sauce – You can definitely sub in low sodium soy sauce!
- Orange juice – I keep little bottles of orange juice in my pantry just for this purpose!
- Water
- Granulated sugar – The sugar will help cut the salt in this savory sauce (and add the perfect amount of sweetness!)
- Ground ginger
- Garlic powder
- Red pepper flakes – Adjust the heat of this sauce with the red pepper flakes. I am a wimp when it comes to spice and can only handle ¼ of a tsp.
- Cornstarch
- Diced rotisserie chicken – I love just tossing in the rotisserie chicken to make this such an easy meal but you can of course use any other type of cooked chicken you’d like.
How to Make Homemade Orange Chicken
- In a cold medium skillet, whisk together the soy sauce, orange juice, cold water, granulated sugar, ground ginger, garlic powder, red pepper flakes and cornstarch until combined.
- Once combined, heat over medium high heat until boiling and thickened.
- Add in the diced rotisserie chicken and serve over rice.
- Alternatively, you could use this sauce as a dip for chicken nuggets or egg rolls.
What dishes can I use this orange chicken sauce for?
I love to serve this sauce over rice with a big helping of stir-fryed vegetables on the side. But this sauce is also insanely delicious as a dip for egg rolls, chicken nuggets (not the dino ones haha), and homemade wontons.
How do I store homemade orange chicken?
Once cooked, store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. When ready to serve, you can reheat on the stove or in the microwave.

Very easy to make and tasted great. Just the right amount of heat. I wonder if you tried adding grated orange peel if it might boost the orange flavor a bit. I added scallions and served it with rice.
Thanks

I made this dish today and it is a real winner. So fast and easy to put together. I did add some chopped green pepper and served it over white rice. Delicious. Thank you for this recipe. It’s definitely a keeper.

You can definitely add in some orange zest for a little extra flavor (and decoration!)
