Bunny Bait Recipe

This springtime sweet is the perfect combination of crunchy and chewy! And truly, it could not be easier to make. We toss a mixture of cereal and pretzels into a bowl, heat up a quick sweet syrup to coat it, and finish it off with pretty pastel m&ms. Let it set up for a skosh and you’ve got a bunny-approved snack that everyone will be clamoring for.

What is in Bunny Bait?

We coat a mixture of cereals, pretzels, and m&ms with a sugary syrup to make this unbeatable bunny bait! Use this as a reference for your grocery list and consult the recipe card below for exact measurements.

  • Chex cereal – You can use Rice or Corn according to your preference!
  • Cheerios – I like the honey nut variety.
  • Pretzel sticks – You will want the small pretzel sticks, not the big rods.
  • Shredded coconut
  • Slivered Almonds
  • Butter
  • Granulated sugar
  • Light corn syrup
  • Spring M&M’s – You can of course use any colorway of M&M’s, but if you want it to be bunny-approved (and therefore springy + fun) the pastel ones are a must!

How to Make Bunny Bait

  1. In a large bowl, combine the Chex, Cheerios, pretzels, coconut, and slivered almonds. Set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Stir in the granulated sugar and corn syrup and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  3. Once the mixture begins to boil, remove it from the heat and immediately pour it over the cereal mixture. Gently stir until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Spread the mixture out onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, distributing it in an even layer.
  5. While the mixture is still warm, sprinkle the M&M’s over the top and gently press them in so they stick.
  6. Allow the Bunny Bait to cool and set completely.Once set, break or cut into pieces and serve.

Why is my Bunny Bait hard?

If you heat the syrup mixture for too long, when it sets up it will be hard. Be sure to boil only for the 1 minute and 30 seconds the recipe states, stirring constantly, and you’ll be good to go!

How should I store Spring snack mix?

Once your bait has set up, break it into smaller pieces and place in an airtight container. This can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days. Enjoy!
