You’re going to love Muddy Buddies with Cadbury Eggs

These muddy buddies with Cadbury Mini Eggs are the perfect combination of classic x fun! Coated in powdered sugar, these peanut butter and chocolate chex pieces are completely elevated by the addition of perfectly addictive Cadbury chocolate mini eggs. Honestly, once you make it this way, you’ll never want to go back to the original! Serve this party-style in a bowl or package it individually as a surprise for Easter baskets, neighbors or an easy handout snack at church.

A personal note about these scrumptious snacks: while calling these ‘Muddy Buddies’ or ‘Puppy Chow’ helps you know the yumminess to expect, I feel like it’s a huge missed opportunity for festive branding! After you take one bite of this mix, it is going to become your new Easter tradition – but please don’t pass it down with a boring name. Instead, consider telling everyone that it’s called Muddy Bunnies or Bunny Chow. And boom – you just became the festive fun one with such minimal effort.

What you’ll need to make Cadbury Egg Muddy Buddies

  • Rice chex cereal – If you can’t find rice chex, corn chex will be a great substitute.
  • Powdered sugar
  • Milk chocolate chips – You can also use semi-sweet or dark chocolate, if that’s more your vibe.
  • Creamy peanut butter – I just use the store brand, but feel free to use whatever brand you’d like! Just maybe steer clear of natural peanut butter here.
  • Butter – I always use salted butter!
  • Cadbury mini eggs, crushed – The star of the show!! Go ahead and just buy the big bag at Costco & thank me later.

How to make Puppy Chow with Cadbury Eggs (aka, Bunny Chow)

  1. Start by measuring out the Chex cereal into a large bowl and set aside.
  2. In a medium microwave safe bowl, add the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Microwave for a total of 1 minute, stirring at the 30 second mark. Stir until smooth and completely melted together.
  3. Once melted, pour the chocolate mixture into the bowl with the cereal. Stir until the cereal is evenly coated.
  4. Pour the powdered sugar onto the coated Chex cereal and stir to coat. Likewise, you can place the powdered sugar in a ziptop bag and toss the coated cereal mixture into the bag to coat.
  5. Finally, toss the crushed mini cadbury eggs into cereal. The best way I’ve found to crush the eggs is by putting them in a ziptop bag and rolling over it with a rolling pin until the mini eggs are crushed to your liking.
  6. When it’s all mixed together, pour the entire cereal mix onto a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to dry.
  7. Your muddy buddies (bunnies) will stay fresh in an airtight container on the counter for 3-4 days. Enjoy!

How do I serve Cadbury Egg Muddy Buddies?

I usually serve this family-style in a bowl on the counter! But you can also portion it out into cellophane bags and attach a cute tag on it to make it giftable and festive!
