Potato Chip Candy Recipe

This is one of my very favorite ways to eat a potato chip (truth). It takes the classically salty snack and propels it straight into sweet peanut-buttery candy land. The end result is a combination of sweet + salty that really shines and only takes a few minutes to achieve. This no-bake style candy is ideal for the times you need a quick something or for gifting. Once they’ve set up, they’re ready to be packaged in cellophane bags, loaded onto a  neighbor’s treat plate, or placed in a bowl as the best party treat ever.

Ingredients

*You can find instructions and exact quantities in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Wavy potato chips, crushed – Feel free to use any brand you’d like.
  • Granulated sugar
  • Corn syrup
  • Peanut butter – Highly recommend creamy peanut butter here! Don’t use a ‘natural’ variety.
  • Vanilla extract – The vanilla brings out all of the other flavors and marries them beautifully.

How to Make Potato Chip Candy

  1. Add crushed potato chips to a large bowl. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set both aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the sugar and corn syrup.
  3. Stir occasionally until the mixture begins to bubble. Once bubbling, immediately remove from heat.
  4. Stir in the peanut butter and vanilla until well combined.
  5. Pour the peanut butter mixture onto the crushed potato chips and stir to coat.
  6. Pour the coated chips onto the prepared cookie sheet and spread into a single layer.
  7. Allow the candy to set up completely before breaking into pieces and serving. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

How should I store leftover chip candy?

Once set up and broken apart, store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 3 days. This cannot be frozen.

Can I make this with other types of chips?

I haven’t personally tested other chips, but other potato chips or salty crackers should work great here!

Karli’s Kitchen Faves

Here are a few of my favorite kitchen tools that I used to make this recipe!

  • Cookie Sheet – These cookie sheets have put in WORK in my kitchen. If you’re looking for a brand that will stand the test of time (and cookies), this is my recommendation.
  • Silicone baking mat – I love using this or parchment paper to line my cookie sheets to make it easy-peasy to remove the chip candy once set up!
  • Spatula – I love these silicone spatulas for stirring the mixture and scraping down the sides of the pan.
  • Bowl – I love how giant these are! They’re perfect for mixing up the chips + peanut butter coating.
