How To Make The Perfect Kabob

First of all, kabob is just such a fun thing to say, right? Now, if only we all knew the ins and outs of kabob making. Don’t you worry your sweet little heart, I am here to help with just that.

Kabob by definition is ‘pieces of meat, fish or vegetables grilled or roasted on a skewer’. No, there aren’t any veggies on this kabob, but I am totally fine with that.

So basically everything gets put onto a skewer and then grilled. It sounds simple, and it really is but there are a few things that will help you be successful every time.

First the skewers. Yes, you can use the wooden ones. Just be sure to soak them in water for at least one hour before putting any meat or food onto them. Soaking them helps to prevent wood splinters coming off into your food and it helps prevent them from, you know, catching on fire. ?

I prefer to use stainless steel skewers. They are sturdy, longer than the wooden ones, and I am 100% confident in the fact that they won’t leave splinters in my food. You can get 12 stainless steel skewers on amazon for ten bucks. Definitely worth it.

One rookie mistake, that I am definitely guilty of, is packing the food onto the kabob too tightly. There needs to be a little bit of space in between each piece of food in order for everything to cook evenly and at the same pace. The pictures in this post? I admittedly didn’t leave enough space. Learn from my mistakes! ?

Grilling is everyone's favorite way to cook during the summer months. These chicken bacon ranch kabobs are perfect for Memorial Day weekend.

How to Make Chicken Bacon Ranch Kabobs

For the best results, you’ll want to either marinade your chicken or rub the chicken with a dry rub. For these Chicken Bacon Ranch Kabobs we will be using a dry rub. A really good example of a marinaded kabob would be my Honey Mustard Chicken and Bacon Kabobs.

You’ll be surprised how flavorful this chicken can be with this 1 ingredient ‘rub’. I always cut my chicken into chunks and then toss all of the diced chicken along with one packet of ranch dressing mix into a large zip top bag. I shake and coat all of the chicken pieces with the powdered ranch dressing mix.

Next let’s bacon. Bacon is wonderful and delicious, obviously. It, however, doesn’t cook as fast on the grill as the chicken does! So it is very important to precook the bacon a bit before putting the kabobs together.

If you don’t precook the bacon a bit you’ll end up with raw bacon, or dry chicken with perfectly cooked bacon. Precooking the bacon is as easy as microwaving it for a few minutes.

When putting the kabobs together, alternate chicken and then a piece of bacon. Make sure to leave enough breathing room in-between the chicken and the bacon.

Grill until the chicken reaches 165°. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Powdered ranch dressing is used as a dry rub on the chicken before grilling.

  1. Hey! On the instructions you say to rub some of the reserved honey mustard on the chicken but there’s no honey mustard on the ingredients. I’m confused:(

  2. Hi Rosangela- with this recipe you’ll make your own honey mustard, combining honey and mustard together in the first step.

  3. Would that be for the honey mustard chicken marinade from your other recipe? Cause this one just says “Instructions
Place the chicken chunks into a large baggie with the dry ranch dressing mix. Shake to coat the chicken in the dressing mix. Set aside.

Microwave the bacon for 2-5 minutes depending on how crispy you like it. Let it cool..”

  4. Oh my heavens! Totally thought you were commenting on the honey mustard kabobs. You are correct! That is a typo, I’ll go and take that out. Thanks for your patience with me this morning. 6. I would imagine so! I would try to bake them at 350* for 20 minutes. Check the chicken with a meat thermometer to make sure it is cooked through. 👍🏻

  7. I made these in my air fryer cooked at 400 for 5 mins were yummy of course my kabob sticks were smaller than yours
