Orange Creamsicle Cookie Bars Recipe

This recipe for orange cookie bars is based on my ultra popular Orange Creamsicle Cookies…that are based on Creamsicles. It’s a happy dessert kind of inception! Here’s what makes up Creamsicle Bars:

  1. A thick layer of white chocolate fudge that mimics the creamy white interior of a creamsicle popsicle. In my Creamsicle Cookies, we encase vanilla buttercream inside the cookie dough but we had to swap that out in the bars to prevent it from melting and leaking everywhere. And dare I say I prefer the white chocolate fudge??
  2. An orange flavored (and colored) sugar cookie dough that is thick and chewy and just altogether yummm. You’ll press this into the bottom of the pan and crumble it on top of the filling layer.

Ingredients in Orange Cookie Bars

This is a quick look at the ingredients you will need to make Orange Creamsicle Cookie Bars. You will find exact quantities and instructions in the recipe at the end of this post.

  • Salted butter, softened – I prefer to use salted butter, but you can sub in unsalted butter. If that’s the route you choose, make sure to add an extra pinch of salt to the dough.
  • Granulated sugar
  • Eggs
  • Natural orange oil – I recommend my super-strength natural orange oil! It gives these bars the perfect bright orange-y flavor!
  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Orange gel food coloring – This is how we achieve the orange color in these creamsicle bars.

Creamy Layer

  • White chocolate chips
  • Sweetened condensed milk

How to Make Orange Creamsicle Cookies

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Spray a 9×13 baking pan with non-stick spray and set aside.
  2. Cream together the butter and granulated sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer or in a large bowl with an electric hand mixer. Cream for 2 minutes.
  3. Scrape the sides of the bowl and add in the eggs and natural orange oil. Mix until well combined.
  4. Next, add in the flour and baking powder. Mix until the dough comes together.
  5. Add the food coloring a few drops at a time until the dough has reached your desired color.
  6. Press half of the dough into the prepared baking pan and set aside.
  7. In a large microwave safe bowl, add the white chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk.
  8. Microwave on high for 30 seconds and then stir. Repeat until you can easily stir it smooth.
  9. Pour the smooth fudge mixture over the dough that is pressed in the pan and then crumble the remaining dough on top of the creamy layer.
  10. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 18-20 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
  11. Allow the cookie bars to cool completely before cutting and serving. Enjoy!

How to store Creamsicle Cookie Bars

Once cooled, store your cookie bars in an airtight container on the counter for 3-5 days. These bars also freeze really well and can be stored in a resealable freezer bag for up to 3 months.
