This recipe for Mini Powdered Sugar Donuts is tender, fluffy, and moist (no dry crumbly texture here!). Absolutely coated in powdered sugar, you’re going to love this elevated take on the gas station fave.

Homemade Powdered Sugar Donuts
I’m sorry to break this to you, but these homemade powdered sugar donuts are superior in every way to the store bought kind. They are so flavorful with a great fluffy, tender texture that is NOT dry. Yep, you read that right. And truly, they are so quick to pull together. You don’t have to deal with rise time and they only have to bake them for 5 minutes. You can either coat the outsides by tossing them in a bowl with powdered sugar or shaking them up in a ziptop bag filled with powdered sugar. Either way? These are probably too easy to make and way too hard to stop eating for my comfort.

Ingredients
*You can find instructions and exact quantities in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Salted butter, melted – I use salted butter, but you can sub in unsalted butter if you’d prefer – just add an extra pinch of salt to the batter.
- Canola oil – You can sub in any other neutral oil if you’d like.
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- Corn syrup
- Egg
- Sour cream – This provides moisture to the donuts so they aren’t dry + crumbly.
- Milk
- Vanilla
- All-purpose flour – Regular AP works great here!
- Corn starch – This will help soften the donuts.
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Nutmeg – Yes! This IS necessary. It helps flavor the donuts.
- Powdered sugar

How to make Powdered Sugar Donuts
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Spray a mini donut pan with nonstick spray and set aside.
- In a bowl, whisk together the melted butter, oil, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and corn syrup.
- Whisk in the egg and then the sour cream until smooth.
- Add the milk and vanilla, mixing until combined.
- Add the remaining dry ingredients to the bowl and whisk and then stir until a thick batter is reached.
- Transfer the batter to a piping bag or a gallon zip top bag with the corner snipped.
- Pipe the batter into the prepared mini donut pan, filling each cavity approximately ½ full.
- Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 4-5 minutes or until the donuts have risen and feel soft but firm when tapped.
- Immediately flip the pan over to remove the donuts from the pan. Repeat with remaining batter, if needed.
- While the donuts are still warm, coat each donut with powdered sugar. I recommend dumping the powdered sugar into a ziptop bag with a few donuts at a time and shaking until they are completely coated.
- Allow the donuts to cool at room temperature.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Enjoy!

How should I store Powdered Donuts?
Let your donuts cool completely and then store in an airtight container. These are best eaten relatively quickly, so be sure to enjoy them within 2 days.
Can I freeze homemade powdered donuts?
Yes, you can. Let the donuts cool completely and then wrap individually in parchment paper. Place all donuts in a ziptop bag and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy, thaw on the counter and enjoy!
Karli’s Kitchen Faves
Here are a few of my favorite kitchen tools that I used to make this recipe!
- Piping bag – These are disposable, meaning you do not have to clean them ha. They are durable and won’t burst and leak your donut batter.
- Piping tips – This is a set of my 4 favorite piping tips.
- Microwave safe bowls: I love how giant the big bowl is! It’s perfect for mixing up the batter. This set also includes smaller bowls, which is ideal for making your icings.
- Whisk – This is my very favorite silicone whisk. I love that it doesn’t scratch my bowls and it is slightly more flexible for cleaning.
- Mini donut pans – These pans are a great quality and hold up well. I like that these have a larger capacity so you don’t have to bake as many batches. When greased, you shouldn’t have any issue getting the donuts out.

Can this recipe be made in a reg size donut pan? If so, what adjustment to baking time is needed?
Hi! If you’re hoping to make regular sized donuts, you can follow these instructions and then coat in the powdered sugar. https://cookingwithkarli.com/baked-donuts/
I ate donut years ago and would be miserable due to reflux but found baked donuts several years ago. I was thinking of these little powdered donuts the other day. Thanks for the recipe.
Blessings
Could I use cocoa powder mixed in with the powdered sugar?
I haven’t tried that, but it should work. If you test it out, please report back!
These donuts are IDENTICAL to the real deal! I was skeptical to make them at first, but Karli never misses!
