Garlic Cheese Bread-Perfect Weeknight Dinner Side
So I am pretty sure anyone who has children, has had children or have been around children at all will understand how much of a struggle dinner time can be.
Especially when there are multiple children and preferences involved.
I was a picky eater myself growing up so I really can’t say much about it. I will step up onto a small soapbox for, like, 5 seconds and talk about picky eaters and dinner time and how I handle things here at my house.
*stepping onto soapbox*
I don’t ever want my kids to associate eating with being anxious or stressed out. For that reason, we don’t force our kids to eat anything. In fact, I don’t even bug them about it.
Everything gets served onto their plate, but what happens to it from their plate is up to them.
I’ve done this for the last 5 years and you know what? Those nights that I do bug my kids to try something or tell them that they need to take a bit it is almost 100% guarantee that it will either be a fight, or it will go into their mouth and then spit out immediately after.
Most of the time on the nights that I let the chicken just sit there on the plate and don’t say a word, they will end up trying the chicken willingly and actually eat it!
*stepping off soapbox*
Anyway! Every night I try to have a couple of sides served (usually a fruit and a bread of some sort) that everyone likes that way everyone can get full off of what I have made. I do not like having to make a second meal for picky kids!
This Garlic Cheese Bread is a winner at my house! I know that everyone will gobble it up, it goes well with most meals and is the perfect carb to pair with any dinner.
My son actually requests it for breakfast sometimes. Don’t worry, the answer is always no.
How to make the Garlic Bread
First combine butter and garlic powder. Make sure to use garlic powder, not garlic salt. The cheese on the finished bread will add all the saltiness needed.
Cut a loaf of French bread in half lengthwise, then spread the garlic butter onto each half. (Pssst. If your on the hunt for a great homemade French Bread recipe.. I’ve got your back!)
I like to toss the garlic butter in the microwave for 5-10 seconds so it spreads easier.
While you are spreading the butter onto the French bread, preheat a large griddle to 350° or medium high heat.
Lightly spray the griddle with non-stick spray and sprinkle grated cheese onto the griddle. I usually use pre-shredded but either way will work.
Once the cheese gets nice and melted, place the french bread onto the griddle crust side up, buttered side down.
Let the bread sit for a few minutes and then use your hand and push the bread back and forth slightly to gather up the excess cheese. The cheese should be sticking to the bread at this point, not the griddle.
Let it cook for about 5 minutes, checking every minute or so until the cheese is nice and crispy.
Take off of the griddle, cool slightly (so you don’t burn your fingers!!), slice and serve!
We love this low maintenance, easy and DELICIOUS this Garlic Cheese Bread is. We are usually fighting over the last piece!
