What Ingredients are in a Chocolate Chip Pancake?
- All purpose flour
- baking powder
- salt
- Granulated sugar
- Milk
- Buttermilk – If you don’t have buttermilk, you can use the milk and vinegar substitute (add 1 Tbsp of vinegar into a 1 cup measuring cup then fill the rest with milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before adding your desired amount to the batter!) Note: this substitute is thinner than regular buttermilk so you will need to reduce the amount of milk added to 1/4-1/3 of a cup.
- vanilla extract
- Eggs
- Chocolate chips – Use your favorite flavor / brand of chocolate chips. We always use milk because that is my husband’s favorite!
How to Make Chocolate Chip Pancakes
- Preheat a large electric griddle to 350°.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and granulated sugar.
- In a separate bowl whisk together the milk, buttermilk, vanilla and eggs.
- Add the liquids into the dry mixture and whisk until only small lumps remain.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Ladle the pancake batter onto the preheated and sprayed griddle. I sometimes like to use a large cookie scoop to get the right amount of batter on the griddle every time!
- Cook until the edges have firmed up, bubbles are popping throughout the pancake and the bottom is golden brown. At that point, flip the pancake and cook on the other side for an additional 30 seconds or until cooked through and golden brown.
- Repeat with remaining batter.
- Top with strawberries and whipped cream (and whatever else you desire). Enjoy!
How do I prevent the chocolate chips from melting and sticking to the pan while cooking?
Folding the chocolate chips into the batter before scooping and cooking helps prevent chocolate chips from melting and sticking because pancake batter will coat all of the chocolate chips!
What toppings go well with chocolate chip pancakes?
You can use any topping you would typically put on pancakes (think syrup, strawberries, whipped cream, bananas, etc)! But you can also get a little creative and pull out the nutella, extra chocolate chips, peanut butter or anything your heart desires!
What type of pan or griddle should I use for cooking chocolate chip pancakes?
This one is an extra large griddle! My old griddle just broke and this is the one I’m eyeing to replace mine with.
