One of my favorite ways to celebrate anything is with chocolate waffles. They’re easy to make but fancy enough to make any day feel special!

The Best Chocolate Waffle Ever

In our house, chocolate waffles are the go-to celebratory breakfast! Perfect for birthdays, Father’s day, Christmas, or even the ordinary Saturday – chocolate waffles are a super simple way to add a little extra pizazz to your life.

And this chocolate waffle recipe? Well, it’s simply the best. It’s just sweet enough to be special, but not so sugary that you feel remorse about eating it for breakfast. (But hey, no one is going to judge you if you top it with ice cream for your birthday!)

If you’re looking for a scrumptious, chocolatey, easy breakfast idea that will make you feel like everyday is your birthday, check out my chocolate waffle recipe. I guarantee you’re going to make excuses to eat it again soon.

Chocolate Waffle Recipe Ingredients

  • Melted butter – You can use canola oil instead, if you’d like!
  • Eggs
  • All purpose flour
  • Cocoa powder – I just use Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa for this recipe and it works great!
  • Brown sugar
  • Vanilla – This helps bring out the chocolate flavor!
  • Granulated sugar
  • Salt
  • Baking powder
  • Milk – I like to start by adding a small amount of milk and add more if needed to make sure that the batter doesn’t get too thin!

How to Make Yummy Chocolate Waffles

  1. In a small bowl, combine the liquid ingredients (milk, vanilla and eggs) while keeping the melted butter separate for now.
  2. In a separate, larger bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt and baking powder.
  3. Combine the liquid ingredient mixture, melted butter, and the dry ingredient mixture together. Whisk until combined.
  4. Add in more milk, as needed, until a thick batter comes together.
  5. Cook on your favorite waffle iron, enjoy it warm with chocolate sauce, strawberries or other toppings.

What toppings pair well with chocolate waffles?

I have yet to find a topping I don’t like on chocolate waffles, but here are a few of my favorites:

  • Berries (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • Whipped cream
  • Maple Syrup
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Nutella
  • Peanut butter
  • Bananas
  • Ice cream (yep, you read that right)!

Are there any variations of this chocolate waffle recipe that I should try?

In addition to playing around with toppings, you can try adding various ingredients to the waffle batter to change up the flavor. Try adding different types of chocolate chips or peanut butter chips to make it even sweeter! You can also add in smashed bananas, other fruit, or chopped nuts to the batter to switch things up. If you’re really looking to add a punch, try switching out the vanilla for another yummy flavoring, like orange extract!
