Vanilla Pancake Bubble Syrup & Waterfalls
If you follow me on instagram (If you don’t, go do it now! ?) you already know that I was out of town, soaking in nature this past weekend.
A lot of firsts happened on this little vacation to our home away from home.
I caught my first (two!) fish.. can you believe I had never been fishing in my life until this trip?
We hiked to an amazing, breathtakingly beautiful waterfall. Nature is neat! ps. virtual high five if you get that reference. ?
The other first.. BUBBLE SYRUP. My life has officially been changed for the better!
Some close friends came up to the cabin with us. We split meals, we both prepared a breakfast and a dinner.
My breakfast was lame, toast and cereal, as we were headed to church at 8:30 AM! Their breakfast.. I can’t even find word for it.
Let’s just say I ate way too many pieces of SOUR DOUGH FRENCH TOAST. Umm, yeah. Never making French toast any other way now!
Not to mention this Bubble syrup. Honestly, I don’t think I will ever buy maple syrup again.
How to make Vanilla Bubble Syrup
First, sorry about the lack of step by step photos. There are really only 2 steps and it’s almost impossible to stir boiling liquid and take photos at the same time.
I tried. I failed.
At least I have a video for you. ?
To make the syrup, melt buttermilk, butter and sugar together in a medium sauce pan. You’ll want to make sure that the saucepan is a lot bigger than you think you will need. The syrup will foam and bubble up quite a bit.
Stirring constantly, bring the saucepan up to a boil. Remove from heat.
Stir in vanilla, then stir in a little baking soda. The baking soda will cause a reaction and the entire saucepan will turn to bubbles and foam.
YOUR DONE. Yes, that is it!! Pour those bubbles over your favorite pancake or French toast!

No, sorry! I tested, tried and curdled waaaay too many batches of this bubble syrup trying to do just that. Must use the buttermilk.
How do I store my leftover bubble syrup?
The longer the syrup sits, the less bubbly it becomes, but if you do have leftovers make sure to toss it in the fridge and store it there.

For someone who isnt a fan of maple syrup but who loves breakfast food, this recipe is perfect!! Its easy to make, tastes delicious the day you make AND still tastes amazing after it’s been stored in a jar for a few weeks. Just pop it in the microwave and use it on your favorite breakfast food. Great recipe!!
Thanks, Sadie!! This is a staple at my house, too! Happy you enjoyed it!
I remember a restaurant down the road from me when I was little, that I used to have this type of syrup. It brings so many happy memories for me that as soon as I found this, I had to try it. At this point, I don’t even know how many times I have made this recipe; probably 5? It is delicious and I can’t get enough of it! I make it with vegan butter and vegan buttermilk mixture and it turns out amazing every time.
