Instant Pot Applesauce-The perfect Beginner Recipe!
When I first made applesauce in my Instant Pot, I was honestly FLOORED at how easy it was!
The fact that it tasted AMAZING with only 2 ingredients and almost no work had me sold on my Instant Pot for life.
I really think that all new Instant Pot owners need to make this their first recipe. It will blow your mind!

How to Make Instant Pot Apple Sauce
First let’s talk about the apples.
Pick your favorite apple and make this apple sauce using that apple. We really like Pink Lady apples or Honey Crisp apples at our house.
If you are a Granny Smith Apple fan, go for it!
Your applesauce will taste like whatever apple you choose.
For this batch I used Pink Lady apples because they were the apples that were on sale. ?
Wash the apples and then cut the apples as pictured below. Basically, cut around the core.
The apple slices don’t need to be the same size, that won’t matter.
The apples don’t even need to be peeled. Nope, I’m not kidding. Told you this recipe had minimal work!!
Place water in the Instant Pot liner. The amount of water will depend on how thick you want your final Sauce. I like mine a bit thicker so I add 1/2 cup of water to the liner. You can add up to 1 cup.
I know what you are thinking.. ‘But, Karli! The Instant Pot needs 1 cup of liquid to come to pressure! I think I’ll get the burn notice with only using 1/2 cup of water.’
Answer: As everything is heating up, the apples let off enough liquid to equal 1 cup of liquid so everything is fine and dandy. ?
Cook on Manual HIGH for 4 minutes, NPR 5 minutes and then a controlled quick release of the remaining pressure. A controlled quick release means letting the pressure out with little spurts instead of flipping the knob all the way to vent and keeping it there.
Apple sauce is one of those recipes that can be known for Volcano-ing. The controlled quick release will curb the Volcano. ?
Then, using a fork, pull the peels of the apple out of the Instant Pot. You’ll be surprised at how easy this is! They just separate themselves from the apple!
Once all fo the peels are out, use a whisk to stir the apples. At this point you can add sugar to sweeten if needed. Cinnamon can also be added at this point if desired.
I usually add about 1/8 cup of sugar to my batch of applesauce.
The applesauce will keep well in the fridge for up to 1 week.

- 1/8 cup granulated sugar optional
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon optional
Instructions
- Wash and cut the apples. You just want the core out of the apple. See picture in blog post for how I cut my apples. The slices don’t need to be the same size or uniform. Mine usually are quite large.
- Pour the water into the Instant Pot liner. The more water used the thinner the apple sauce will be. 1/2 cup of water yields a very thick apple sauce.
- Add the chopped apple to the Instant Pot.
- Cook on Manual HIGH fro 4 minutes, NPR 5 minutes then finish off with a controlled quick release.
- Use a fork and remove the Apple Peels out of the Instant Pot.
- Whisk the applesauce and add in sugar and cinnamon if desired.
- Keeps will in the fridge for up to 1 week.

I made this today with our apples we picked from the orchard and it is DELICIOUS! However when I quick released the instant pot, it sprayed applesauce all over the kitchen!!! Imagine a school science project volcano explosion-thats what happened! And I had no choice but to let it continue so I could get the lid off lol! I wonder how I could avoid that next time or maybe it was a fluke?? So yummy and easy (minus the major kitchen cleanup) though!
Hi Kristin- In the post I talk about this. I suggest doing a controlled quick release for this reason, letting a little bit of steam out at a time in spurts to avoid this. I am glad it was still delicious!
