French Toast Nuggets are small, bite-sized pieces of french toast. They’re dipped in egg and fried crispy-brown, and covered with cinnamon and sugar. This is such a fun alternative to regular old French toast! Plus, no forks required!
A Fun Recipe For Kids to Make
French Toast Nuggets are any kids’ favorite finger food. They’re little bite-sized pieces of french toast that are covered in cinnamon and sugar. There isn’t much that could make them better!
My kids absolutely love these. Not only because french toast nuggets are 100% drool-worthy (which they totally are), but because my kids actually make these little guys by themselves! (With a little help from mom for the frying part. ;))
My kids really can make these nuggets with minimal help from me. They love being in the kitchen, and love it even more if they can make a recipe all on their own. Microwave Scrambled Eggs and Pancake Mix Muffins are two more of my kids’ favorite breakfasts to make.
Why Kids Need More Kitchen Time
Kids are learning and developing all the time! As parents, it is our responsibility to give them the opportunities they need to develop emotional, socially and physically.
Yes, messes are a given when kids get in the kitchen, but the fine-motor skills they get to practice are 100% worth the messes! You’d be surprised at how fast they catch on and how the messes get less and less every time they try again.
Not only are they developing skills (life long, important skills!) but this is a perfect opportunity for parent/child bonding.
My son loves to make recipes all by himself but he also loves for me to sit on the chair and chat with him while he is cooking. Sometimes we even turn on music and dance around as we help each other.
Give it a shot, let them try! Hey, they might love it and soon you’ll never have to cook another meal in your life. 😉
Ingredients For French Toast Nuggets
(printable recipe below)
- 8 slices white bread
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 tbsp butter for frying
Cinnamon and Sugar Topping
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
*The reason we use white bread for this recipe is because it’s the squishiest. If you’d rather, go ahead and use brown bread. Just make sure it’s super-fresh.
Making Your Nuggets
To make french toast nuggets, bread is torn and smushed into balls. We usually tear a piece of bread into fourths, so four nuggets come from each slice of bread. Alternatively, use thicker ‘Texas toast’ bread and cut into cubes!
Next, eggs, milk, vanilla and sugar are whisked together. My son (4) can do this on his own as long as I set out the correct measuring spoons by each ingredient.
Then the balls of bread get dunked in the egg mixture. I take over here, and fry them up in a bit of butter.
While I am frying the nuggets up, my kids are making the cinnamon and sugar. I find it easiest to measure straight into a zip-top bag.
Once the nuggets are fried to a golden brown, I drop them into the baggie full of cinnamon and sugar. Zip that baby shut and let the kids shake, shake shake!!
