Sugar Cookie Sprinkle Cookies

Sprinkles make everything better, right?

When I was a growing up, our local grocery store would always have fresh sprinkle sugar cookies set out for us kids. I looked forward to these cookies every time we went shopping. They were the best, softest, sweetest cookies ever. So of course I had to make my own version. My kids liked them just as much as I did back in the day.

Did you know that at most grocery stores you can buy sprinkles in bulk at the bakery? I always pick up some red, white and blue sprinkles around the 4th of July so I can make all things festive! These cookies can easily go from little kid birthday party to Christmas to halloween! Simply by using different colored sprinkles!

How to make Sprinkle Cookies

To make the sugar cookie dough, cream together butter and sugar until well combined. You should cream the butter and sugar for at least two minutes or until they are light and fluffy.

Scrape down the sides of the bowl, add in the eggs and vanilla. Mix until well combined.

butter, sugar eggs and vanilla.

After the eggs and vanilla have been mixed in well, add in the flour and baking powder. The dough will be very sticky.

Now it is time to talk about the sprinkles.

I found my sprinkles at a local store around where I live. I love these sprinkles because there isn’t any brown, which makes for a fun, bright cookie.

Colorful sprinkles like these can be found at Michaels and other craft stores usually. You can also find them online on Amazon.

Like I said above, local bakeries often sell seasonal sprinkles to go along with the holidays for extremely cheap. This is a really easy way to make a festive dessert.

Scoop the dough with a cookie scoop and then roll the dough in the sprinkles. Make sure to really press the sprinkles onto the sides of the cookie dough, taking care to insure every open space is covered with sprinkles.

Because the dough is so soft and sticky it is easy for the dough to lose it’s shape while being rolling in the sprinkles. Reshape into a ball before placing the cookie dough onto a parchment paper covered cookie sheet.

The cookies spread quite a bit while they bake, so I suggest limiting to 8 cookies per cookie sheet.

Bake the cookies at 350° for 10 minutes. Let the cookies cool completely on the cookie sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • sprinkles

Hi Lori- If you use unsalted butter, I would suggest adding 1/2 tsp of salt to the recipe to make up for the salt in the salted butter. 🙂
