Fruit Salad Dressing Recipe

Nine times out of ten, when I’m heading to a party I’m asked to bring cookies (no surprise there). But the other tenth of the time? I’m asked to bring my fruit salad. And if we’re being honest, it is ALL because of this fruit salad dressing recipe. It brings all of your fruit together harmoniously, without overshadowing the natural flavors. Adding an extra kick of sweetness (without adding grainy sugar) this dressing for fruit salad is remarkably easy to mix up and an absolute game changer. But don’t worry – it’s not going to make your fruit taste syrupy and gross – it’s truly the best of both worlds here.

What Ingredients are in Dressing for Fruit Salad?

  • Pineapple juice – I LOVE the way the pineapple juice brings this all together, but if you don’t have any on hand you can substitute with orange juice or apple juice.
  • Honey – This will act as a natural sweetener for your fruit salad.
  • Lime zest
  • Lime juice – This gives your fruit salad a nice tang while also preventing your fruit from browning. You can use bottled lime juice if you don’t have a lime on hand.

How to Make Dressing for Fruit Salad

  1. Start by zesting one lime to obtain the lime zest.
  2. Cut the zested lime in half and squeeze the juice from one-half of the lime. You’ll need approximately 1/2 of a lime’s worth of juice.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the 1/2 cup of pineapple juice, 1/8 cup of honey, lime zest, and the lime juice you’ve just extracted.
  4. Whisk the ingredients together thoroughly until the honey is fully incorporated, and the dressing has a smooth consistency.
  5. Taste the dressing and adjust the sweetness or tartness by adding more honey or lime juice, as needed, to suit your preference.
  6. Once you’ve achieved the desired balance of flavors, the fruit salad dressing is ready to use.
  7. Drizzle the mixture over your fruit salad just before serving. Toss the salad gently to ensure the dressing coats the fruit evenly.
  8. Enjoy your fruit salad with the refreshing and zesty pineapple, honey, and lime dressing!

Can I make the dressing in advance and store it, or is it best to prepare it just before serving?

Oh absolutely! Mix this up and store in an airtight container in the fridge up to 2 days in advance. When you’re ready to serve, give it a quick whisk and pour it over your prepared fruit salad and enjoy immediately!

What’s the role of citrus zest in this dressing, and can I use zest from different citrus fruits interchangeably?

The lime in this recipe adds a zesty kick to your fruit salad, off-setting an overly sweet finish with a slight tang. If you don’t want to use a lime, you could sub it out with a lemon or an orange as desired.
