Ingredients

Hot Chocolate French Toast

  • 8 slices of bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup hot chocolate powder
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder optional, but highly suggested
  • 2 tbsp sugar optional, but highly suggested

Homemade Marshmallow Syrup

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup mini marshmallows

Instructions

  • For the Hot Chocolate French Toast: Preheat griddle to 300°.
  • Beat the eggs, milk, vanilla, hot cocoa powder, cocoa powder and sugar together. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash more milk. This really depends on the hot cocoa powder.
  • Quickly dip each slice of bread in the egg wash, laying on the preheated griddle after.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown.
  • For the Marshmallow Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, sugar and buttermilk.
  • Bring to a boil. Once it starts boiling, remove from heat.
  • Stir in the vanilla and baking soda. The baking soda will cause it to bubble up!
  • Stir in the marshmallows until melted.

Notes

Milk or buttermilk substitutes will curdle. Must use buttermilk!
